The 2024-2025 academic year marks a significant milestone in the development of our country’s general education as the 2018 General Education Program is fully implemented at the primary level. A notable highlight in the new primary curriculum is the systematic introduction of statistics. This addition not only familiarizes primary students with fundamental concepts of modern mathematics but also equips them with valuable tools for analyzing, evaluating information, and making informed decisions in life. In particular, integrating statistical content into the teaching of other subjects will contribute to improving teaching effectiveness and create favorable conditions for students to acquire knowledge deeply and comprehensively.From the perspective of teacher training, changes in the statistical knowledge framework in the primary mathematics curriculum, specifically in the fifth grade, necessitate adjustments in teaching the related content in the Probability and Statistics Introduction for Mathematics course. This article outlines some points to note when introducing statistical data and graphs in the fourth and fifth-grade mathematics textbooks according to the 2018 General Education Program
and simultaneously suggests some points to consider when teaching statistical knowledge to primary education students at An Giang University.
