Background: Sclerosis injection therapy in treating gastric variceal bleeding is a new less invasive treatment, however, this technique is not widely used. the authors aim to reviewe the primary efficacy and the safety of sclerosis injection therapy in management of gastric variceal bleeding in No.108 Military Central Hospital. Patients and method: All selective patients with gastric variceal bleeding who was undergone sclerosis injection therapy from 06/2011 to 07/2013 are induded in the study. Patients are followed up for 6 month. Results: 27 patients induded 24 men and 3 women with mean age was 53 + or - 11. The technical success rate is 100 percent. Haemostasis in emergency was 8/8 patients (100 percent). Complications: fever rate 14,8 percent
epigastric pain rate 18,5 percent
there is no case with septicemia
haemorrhage recurrent rate is 3,7 percent after 1 month, 28,5 percent after 3 month, 29,6 percent after 6 months. Three patients are died. Disappearance of gastric varices after sclerosis injection within three months is 96,3 percent. Conclusions: Sclerosis injection therapy is an effective and safe technique in the treatment of gastric variceal bleeding, and can be widely used in Vietnam.
