Objective: To see the pattern and outcome of Guillain-Barre syndrome. Methods: A cross sectional descriptive study on 168 Guillain-Barre children period from 1/1/2006 - 30/7/2011 in National hospital of paediatrics. There were two groups (group patients used IVIG in treatment
group patients did not use IVIG in treatment). Results: There were 107 male and 61 female (male/female: 2/1). Age from 8 months to 15 years old, average aged were 5 + or - 3.5 years. Preceding events were seen in 65 percent patients which were in the form of upper respiratory illnesses, diarrhoea or fiver. Diagnosis based on clinical symptom according to diagnostic criteria for Guillain-Barre syndrome. The most comon signs symtoms consisted of acute flaccid paralysis 100 percent of the patients. 80 percent of cases were on feet at the first onset. Cranical nerves were involved only in 2.4 percent. Albuminocytologycal in cerebrospinal fluid was seen 60 percent and 11.3 percent required ventilation. Average long stay in hospital were 11.24 days. Mean duration of ventilation were 31.84 days. There were 126 children in IVIG group, 42 children in without IVIG group. Mean duration recovery in IVIG group were 43.29 days and 76.33 days in without IVIG group. Mean complete recovery duration in both groups were 54.2 days.
