Community as the subject of heritage is a popular topic in implementing activities and research related to heritage. Who is the community? What is it role in carrying out the tasks of protecting and promoting heritage? This paper analyses some perspectives on community in the 1972 Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Cultural Heritage Law and other legislative documents. The paper also points out ambiguous and open-ended points in identifying a heritage community. From there, the paper clarifies the central role of community as well as the marginalization of community by giving examples of specific cases in Vietnam.Cộng đồng là chủ thể của di sản - một chủ đề được bàn luận nhiều trong thực tiễn triển khai các hoạt động và nghiên cứu liên quan đến di sản. Vậy cộng đồng là ai? Vai trò của cộng đồng là gì trong thực hiện các nhiệm vụ bảo vệ và phát huy di sản? Bài viết phân tích một số quan điểm về cộng đồng theo Công ước 1972 về bảo vệ di sản văn hóa và thiên nhiên thế giới, Công ước 2003 về bảo vệ di sản văn hóa phi vật thể, Luật Di sản văn hóa và một số văn bản dưới luật. Bài viết cũng chỉ ra những điểm chưa rõ ràng, mang tính mở về nhận diện một cộng đồng di sản
từ đó làm rõ hơn vai trò trung tâm của cộng đồng cũng như sự ngoài lề hóa cộng đồng thông qua một số trường hợp nghiên cứu ở Việt Nam.
