This paper presents several issues related to quality of hot mix asphalt and flexible pavement in Vietnam. Analyses and assessments in hot mix asphalt used to define difficulties in selecting of component materials, especially in mineral materials, such as flaky and soft aggregate particles, and filler as well as appropriate bitumen grade for serviced condition in Vietnam. Procedures to select and design of pavement structures are reviewed to estimate further investigations in new design methods and trials in applying advanced materials. Construction technology and quality control-quality assurance are also mentioned to show problems in the traditional single layer construction method. This creates suggestions to improve laying technology to obtain a "full bonding" and no displacement between asphalt layers in flexible pavement structure.
