Forest production is one of the essential livelihood activities of people in the border area of Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province. At present, the shift in the structure of forest production from afforestation for pure timber (such as pine, linden, manglietia conifera dandy, and bead tree) to non-timber forest products (such as anise, chine wood oil tree, cinnamon, tea, and amomum) has brought about a significant source of income for the people but has also created multi-dimensional impacts on the environment and society. The article is based on the identification and analysis of the current situation of forest production, also including issues of environmental protection in Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province. On this basis, it offers some solutions for balancing economic development and environmental protection.Sản xuất lâm sản là một trong những hoạt động sinh kế thiết yếu của người dân ở biên giới huyện Mường Khương, tỉnh Lào Cai. Hiện nay, sự dịch chuyển cơ cấu sản xuất lâm sản từ trồng rừng lấy gỗ thuần tuý (thông sa mộc, mỡ, xoan…) sang cây lâm sản ngoài gỗ (hồi, trẩu, quế, chè, sa nhân…) đã mang lại nguồn thu nhập đáng kể cho người dân, song lại tạo ra những tác động nhiều chiều tới môi trường và xã hội. Bài viết trên cơ sở nhận diện và phân tích thực trạng sản xuất lâm sản và những vấn đề đặt ra, trong đó có vấn đề bảo vệ môi trường tại huyện Mường Khương tỉnh Lào Cai sẽ đề xuất một số giải pháp giúp cân bằng giữa phát triển kinh tế và bảo vệ môi trường.
