The purpose of this study was to evaluate serum uric acid concentrations in elderly type 2 diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome. The results showed that the mean concentration of serum acid uric was 347.9 +/- 85.5 umol/l, the rate of hyperuricemia in elderly type 2 diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome was 22 percent. Patients with good and acceptable levels of glycemic control had higher levels of serum uric acid than those with poor glycemic control (p 0.05). There was correlation between serum uric acid concentration and abdominal obesity, triglycerides, HbA1C, and HDL-C. There was no association between serum uric acid concentration and hypertension, duration of diabetes, and fasting blood glucose levels.
