This is a cross-sectional study aiming at assessing the situation and training need assessment of training for graduated pharmadst in 5 coastal provinces: Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, in 2014. the authors collected data through self-reported questionnaire and in-depth interviews of 5 direction members of Provincial Departments of Health and 17 provincial and district hospitals of these 5 provinces. Results showed that there is a great shortage of graduated pharmacists: number of pharmacists for a population of 10000 is only 0,56 in these provinces, far lower compared to the expected ratio of 2,5 pharmacists per 10000, with 30 percent clinical pharmacist as Vietnam National Strategy for Pharmaceutical Development until 2020. This creates a strong need for training pharmacist, especially in clinical pharmacy in this region.
