Objective: To describe characteristics of unintentional injuries among students of some junior high schools in Thai Binh city and Vu Thu District, Thai Binh Province, 2014. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 8 junior high schools of Thai Binh city and Vu Thu district. Interviewed 633 students reported being unintentional injury during last year. Results: Injuries were occurred the highest at home (39,0 percent)
following was at school (28,8 percent) and on the street was 13,1 percent. The cause of injury was falls (45.2 percent)
followed by traffic accidents (11.4 percent) and cutting by sharp objects (7.9 percent). Lesions were: bruises, scratches, open wounds, cuts (55.7 percent)
sprains, dislocated joints (15.5 percent)
fractures (6.3 percent) and bum (3.8 percent). Conclusion: The most common place of injuries was at home, (followed by the school. Three common causes of non-fatal injuries among junior high school students were falls, traffic accidents and other sharp objects. More than a fifth of students had been injured as sprains, dislocated joints or fractures.
