Background: Currently, intertronchanteric fractures primarily treated by internal fixation help set early mobilization patients avoid the complications of bed rest. Internal fixation is considered the standard treatment for intertronchanteric fractures. In recent, hemiathroplasty is a option with survival rate after surgery was equal to the internal fixation, early functional recovery, avoiding complications after prolonged immobilization of fractures surgery, avoid failure of internal fixation particularly in patients with osteoporosis and surgery time is shorter. The objectives of the research is evaluation of results of hemiarthroplasty for treatment of intertronchanter femoral fracture. Patients and methods: Including 28 patients having intertronchanteric fractures at A1 and A2 according to A0 classification, osteoporosis grade 3 to grade 1 according to Singh index, treated hemiathroplasty at the University Hospital of Medicine Hue and Hue Central Hospital from March 2011 to June 2014. Functions of lower limb were evaluated by Harris score. Results: Average age is 83.14 years old. The result with Harris score at 3 months postoperative: excellent and good are 52 percent, fair is 20 percent, poor is 28 percent, mean average 71.96 +/- 23.91 points. After 6 months: excellent and good are 62.5 percent, fair is 12.5 percent, poor is 25 percent, mean average is 74.71 +/- 24.81 points. Conclusions: Treatment of intertronchanteric femoral fracture by hemiathroplasty is a good option for older patients with severe osteoporosis. This method helps reduce the time of surgery and permit early mobilization.
