Southwest of Vietnam (also known as Mekong River Delta) is home of about 1.3 million Khmers (accounting for 7 percent of population of the whole region and 94 percent of total Khmer people country wide). During recent years, Vietnam Communist Party and Government have promulgated many policies to promote socio-economic development for Khmer people living in Southwest region. Thanks to that, the income and physical and spiritual life of Khmers have been improved, the development gap between Khmers and other ethnic groups has been narrowed. However, production and life of most Khmers are still in difficult situation in comparison of the whole country in general and Mekong River delta in particular. Therefore, this requests all levels and branches to pay more attention to bring support policies into real life towards rapid and sustainable social and economic development for Khmer people.
