In order to investigate the species composition of fishes in Ba Lat estuary, five field surveys were carried out in 2010 and 2012. A total of 111 fish species representing 45 families and 15 orders were identified. Of which the order Perciformes is the most diverse with 58 species and 21 families (or 52.3 percent and 46.7 percent of the total recorded species and families, respectively). On average, each order- had 2.5 families, and 7.4 species
each family had 2.5 species, although 6 orders (40.0 percent) had only one species. the authors also recorded four nationally threatened species listed in the Red Data Book of Vietnam (2007) and 27 globally threatened species listed in the IUCN Red List (2012), including two most endangered species, Clupanodon thrissa and Konosiros punctatus. In this study, the authors also identified 57 species of economic value (or 51.4 percent of total recorded species) and they are being regularly harvested in the area.
