The Ma ethnic group, with an estimated population of more than 33.000 people, has always contributed an essential part of the unique values of the Central Highlands region. They live mostly in Lam Dong province and a part of Dak Nong province. Ma women are famous for their craftsmanship, which is represented in their well-known beautiful brocades. The authors carried out this study to survey the use of traditional knowledge and practical experience in dyeing plants of Ma people, in order to propose sufficient measures of socia-economic development in the region. In 2012, the authors recorded 9 species plants that are traditionally used in dyeing plants by Ma people. The authors also recorded value indigenous knowledge in using mordants which is different from that of other ethnic groups in Northern Vietnam.
