Reactions of 4,5-dimethoxy-2-(3-methylfuroxan-4-yl)phenylhydrazine, a new arylhydrazine, with acid anhydride, acid chloride, saturated aldehyde and ketone, aromatic aldehyde and ketone were examined. Eight novel compounds including hydrazides, imide and hydrazones were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS spectroscopy. It was found that only one acetohydrazone (compound 4) exhibited a significant cytotoxicity against human cancer cell line SW620.
