Zn/Al and Mg/Al hydrotalcite intercalated with stearate (ZnAl-HT-SA, MgAl-HT-SA) were prepared using the coprecipitation method. The obtained hydrotalcites were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. The thermal properties of epoxy coatings containing 3 percent ZnAl-HT-SA and 3 percent MgAl-HT-SA were evaluated. The obtained results showed that stearate was intercalated in hydrotalcites. The presence of ZnAl-HT-SA, MgAl-HT-SA improved the thermal resistance of epoxy coatings. The limited oxygen index of epoxy coating was increased by 16 percent and 31 percent with the presence of MgAl-HT-SA and ZnAl-HT- SA, respectively.
