Objectives: describe the character and evaluate the results of treatment of open distal tibial fractures with external fixation in Viet Duc University Hospital. Subjects and Methods: Retrospective study in 55 patients who had open distal tibial fractures from 2011 through 2012. Results: Male/Female ratio was 2,2/1. Average age was 41,6. A3 (AO/OTA) fractures was 60 percent. Type III open fractures were 85,5 percent. The rate of excelllent and very good bone union was 67,3 percent. Conclusion: treatment of open distal tibial fracture with external fixation showed good results without severe complications.
