Purpose: Injury is one of the leading causes of death currently in hospital of Viet Nam. This study was conducted to identify factors influendng emergency care and death due to injury at Viet Duc Hospital from 2010 to 2011, which can propose solutions for reduction morbidity and mortality. Methodology: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted. All patients injured being given emergency care in Hospital during the study, including prehospital death were considered. Data was collected from the patient medical records of the emergency department, archived patient record and autopsy report, and analyzed by softwave SPSS.16.0. Results: Statistic over 2 years show as many as 2482 patients died (3,85 percent) of all injured related patients, almost men as 80 percent, however women accounted only 20 percent, average ages were 36,36. Most cases died due to head trauma as 1735 (69,9 percent), secondly was multiple injuries. They were almost provided the first aid, but still 12,3 percent were not received EMS or proper first aid before reaching the hospital. The prehospital care was commonly provided such as IV, and bandage/hemorrhage control. 47,2 percent cases were transported by ambulances. Conclusion and recommendation: Injury is one of the leading causes of death among emergencies at Viet Duc Hospital, mostly, there were male and young patients. Many cases were not received EMS or proper prehospital care which cause the death. In order to prevent morbidity as well as reduce mortality rate, the health care centers all level should be upgraded to meet the increasing needs for emergency care, enhancing the 115 call system, especially prehospital care for trauma patients.
