To explore the clinical characteristics and risk factors of respiratory failure prolonged in patients bitten by bungarus multicintus snake, research has conducted on 66 patients bitten by snake and caused respiratory failure. The results were as follows: 89.3 percent patients bitten by bungarus multicintus snake caused respiratory failure. 44.2 percent of patients was type II respiratory failure and mainly severe and critical respiratory failure (83.6 percent). Appeared time of respiratory failure was 6.21 + or - 5.82 hours and extended periods was 223.6 + or - 155.8 hours (9.3 + or - 6.5 days). The prognostic factors of respiratory failure were: respiratory failure early onset (s 6 hours, OR = 6.5, 95 percent a = 1.3 - 31.3)
