There are 7 threatened species listed in the Vietnam Red Data Book (2007). The genus of Schefflera is the largest and most diverse in the family of Araliaceae Vietnam. In addition, Panax vietnamensis (vietnamese ginseng) was reported to exhibit interesting pharmacological effects, such as stimulatory and suppressive effects on central nervous system and antitumor-promoting activity. Previous phytochemical investigations Araliaceae species resulted in isolation of triterpene saponins, steroidal saponins, flavonoides, polysaccharids, essential oils etc. As lead compounds, they may have potential in research and development of medicine in Vietnam.
