Based on results of the reptile faunal surveys conducted from 2010 to 2013, a list of 81 reptile species belonging to 54 genera, 14 families and 2 orders has been recorded in the West Quang Ngai region. Colubridae is predominated by genus and species number. Among recorded species, 26.species are precious and endangered, including 15 species listed in the Governmental Decree. No.32/2006/ND-CP (2006),21 species listed in the Red Data Book of Vietnam (2007), 12 species listed fn the IUCN Red List (2013)
6 species first recorded in Vietnam, including Cyclemys pulchristriata, Fimbrios smithi, Opisthotropis daovantieni, Takydromus hani, Cyrtodactylus pseudoquadrivirgatus, Cyrtodactylus irregularis. Fifteen (15) species are common (18.52 percent), 52 species are less common (64.20 percent),.14 species are rare (11.28 percent). Some species had been recommended to strict protection, including Geoemydidae, Testudinidae, Python molurus, Python reticulatus, Ophiophagus hannah, Naja atra, Varanus nebulosus, Vatanus salvator, Bungarus candidus, Palea steindachneri, Amyda cartilaginea.
