Xuan Thuy National Park is located in Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province. It belongs to Red river estuarine with geographic coordinates from 20°10' to 20°15' North and from 106°20' to 106°32' East. To the north and northeast the park is adjacent to the Red River. To the northwest it is adjacent to the residential areas of 5 communes, including: Giao Thien, Giao An, Giao Lac, Giao Xuan, Giao Hai of Giao Thuy district. The rest of the park is bordered by the East Sea (Bien Dong). Tidal zone of the park includes: Bai Trong, Con Ngan, Con Lu and Con Xanh. The total area of the park is 15,100ha (7,100ha core zone and 8,000ha buffer zone), of which 12,000ha belongs to Ramsar site. The core area of Xuan Thuy National Park includes: Bai Trong (inner part) of Con Ngan, entire Con Lu and Con Xanh. The area of core zone-float land when the tide is out-is 3,100ha and flooded area is 4,000ha. Vop river and Tra river carry freshwater sediment and mix it with sea water to create mixture of water which is very suitable for mangroves and aquaculture development. Beside Tra river and Vop river, there is also a short creek dividing Con Lu and Con Xanh, flowing from Ba Lat estuary to the sea. These are ideal conditions for ecosystems in the wetland areas with high biodiversity and many unique habitats.
