The Vietnam Red List was published in 2007, recognized 13 species of marine macroalgae, including 8 species of red seaweed and 5 species of brown seaweed. Hawever, conforming to the IUCN Red List Criteria and Categories and based on latest data on the actual status of the distribution of marine macroalgae, collected by the author, in the framework of 2 research Projects realized from 2007 to 2011, entitled "Actual status of the distribution and conservation solutions for. the Red seaweed resouces" and "Assessment on the Vietnam seaweeds potential to be used as materials for ethanol biofuel production", the author proposed an adding list of 10 threatened species of red seaweed, categorized in different IUCN categories.
