The antioxidant activities of crude methanol extract and four different solvent fractions (hexan (HX), ethyl acetate (EA), Cloroform (CF), butanol (BuOH) from six selected Vietnam seaweeds were evaluated. The results indicate that different solvent fractions obtained from total (methanol) extract exhibit higher antioxidant activities as compared to the total extract. Bu fraction of S.crasifo/ium exhibited higher DPPH radical scavenging activity. Sc among all the fractions and EA fraction of Padina australis found to have the highest total antioxidant activity. The findings of this work are useful to further research to identify, isolate and characterize the specific compound which is responsible for higher antioxidant activity.
