Tam Giang- Cau Hai lagoon system is connected to the East Sea by two inlets namely Thuan An and Tu Hien. Nowadays, Tu Hien inlet plays an important role in regulating water salinity, providing convenient waterways for fishing ship in and out Tu Hien port and acting as discharge outlet for inland river system during rainy season
hence, continuously reduces adverse effects to socio- economic activities in the region. However, Tu Hien inlet has always been sedimented, leading to irregular and unpredictable self-closing and opening during the past recent years. In dry season, Tu Hien inlet has been limited to about 70-120m in wide and becoming rather shallow, signalling another potential closing and opening cycle. If Tu Hien inlet is fully filled up while Loc Thuy mouth was degrading, community's life and other issues community livelihood would be influenced. Therefore, a project planning to control and stabilize Tu Hien mouth at Vinh Hien commune, Thua Thien Hue province was implemented to guarantee its longterm stabilization. This article focuses on the impact of this project - Planing and construction project to control and stabilize Tu Hien inlet at Vinh Hien commune, Thua Thien Hue province - to socio-economic condition, biodiversity and the physical tranformation of coastal line. Besides, this article will propose additional and corrective solutions for the project that are adaptive to climate change situation nowadays.
