In 1999, an investigation was conducted on East Sea Vietnam under a scientific co-operation program between Vietnam and Germany, called 140B, on the ship RIV SONNE. Eight deep sea sediment samples collected in the central basin were chosen for examining the characteristics ofsediments. Based on the analysis of the composition of grain size, material composition and chemical composition of sediments may raise comments on the characteristics of deep-sea sediments in East Sea as follows: - Deep bottom sediments, except the top layer of volcanic ash is considered the mark of modern floor, the rest is mainly clay with silt particles of sediment types from san.d to silt and clay mud clay can be divided into three layers corresponding to the three stages of development from below as follows: + The first stage corresponds to the clay mud, clay, dark brown, with a material as foraminifera, fragments identified organisms, radiolaria, broken glass, quartz at the bottom of the column sample. + The second stage with blue-gray clay mud interspersed with the hard clay, with a material as foraminifera, fragments identified organisms, debris identify crystalline species, radiolaria, pieces of glass and quartz thickness varies from 7 to 21 cm. + Modern Stage with light-brown clay silt, gray-brown along the top, including white volcanic ash gray, with a material as foraminifera, shell fragments identified organisms, shelled organisms identified crystalline, pieces of glass, quartz, radiolaria, mica and heavy minerals, with a thickness varied from 10 to 25 cm. - The composition of sedimentary foraminifera dominates in the west dominated by radiolaria in the eastern basin. - The process of creating the cost-Mn mineralization is occurring in the sediments with MnO content 1 percent, mainly in the sediment mud-brown clay. - There are three main sources of material for the sedimentary basin: source organisms, volcanic origin and terrigenous source. In the native organisms and volcanoes dominate. - On the sedimentation regime in the eastern edge of coarser material at the edge of the Western study area.
