The qualitative study was conducted in 2012 in three selected communes in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province, namely Long Phuoc, Phuoc Thai and Binh An to explore the drinking water sources used by the community here and the water associated diseases that were common among the population of the three communes. This study was a part of the study on "Assessment of the health status of communities at selected environmental pollution hot spots and proposing recommendations for mitigation". The results of the qualitative component were consistent with what found in the quantitative component of the whole study. The most common drinking sources used by the community here was drilled wells and digged wells. A small proportion of community in Binh An commune had a chance to access water-piped system. The water treatment method applied by the community here included waterfiltration pond, some households bought purified water for the drinking and cooking purposes. The common diseases among the population of the three communes were dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever, diarrhea and dysentery. In Binh An commune, the proportion of married women at the age group of 15-49 with gynecological diseases was high according to a commune health staff of this commune.
