Although ginger is one of the most economically important spices and medicinal plants of Quang Nam, information on the status of ginger production in the province is limited. Moreover, the current production ginger suffered serious losses due to disease, especially bacterial wilt. The survey on the status of ginger production in Phu Ninh and Tien Phuoc Districts, Quang Nam Province showed that ginger production in this province is at small household levels with low yield and seriously affected by diseases. Bacterial wilt is one of the most devastating one which usually causes heavy losses in November to January. The lack of information about the disease leads to inappropriate control methods used which is just a waste of money with no efficacy in controlling the disease. In this study, the pathogen was identified as bacterium Ralstonia solancearum, a threatening pathogen to crops, in general and to ginger, in particular.
