Nannochloropsis oculata is as a source of nutrient, unsaturated eicosapentaenoic acid, vitamin E, and carotenoid. These compounds are important for brain development, enhancing resistance to diseases and supporting cancer treatment. In this study, acute and semichronic toxicity of N oculata was tested on animal models in vivo. N.oculata then was used to produce functional food in capsules. The result of acute toxicity test: Noculata non-toxic product with a lethal dose on 50 percent tested animals (LD50) is greater than 30g/kg of mouse. Tested mouse developed strongly and gained weight. The result of chronic toxicity sale test: N. oculata with oral doses of 1.2g/kg rabbit/day and 3.0g/kg rabbit/day in 28 consecutive days did not affect the body condition and operation of the tested rabbit, and did not affect the hematopoietic function
function and histology ofthe liver and kidney of tested rabbit. The results showed that N. oculata are safe in animals. The authors have established the procedure for producing functional food capsules containing N. oculata and the quality standard profile. The capsules were approved by Vietnam Food Administration (VFA), Certificate Nr. 1 2552/20 13/ATTP - XNCB since Jul. 5th 2013.
