Objective: evaluate the result of modified radical mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty in the treatment of chronic otitis media. Patients and method: prospective and descriptive study of 40 patients underwent modified radical mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty from 4/2013 to 5/2014 at National ENT Hospital. The follow up time were 3 to 12 months. The clinical, audiological and CT scan features of chronic otitis media were collected before surgery, the postoperative assessment included anatomic and audiologic result of modified radical mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty. Result: Cholesteatoma was found intraoperatively in 87,5 percent located at posterior attic 80 percent, anterior attic 67,5 percent, mesotympanum 52,5 percent, facial recess 47 percent, sinus tympani 45 percent, antrum 62,5 percent and mastoid 42,5 percent. Ossicular chain lesions was 80 percent. The subtotal and total ossiculoplasty rate was respectively 32,5 percent and 67,5 percent. The prosthesis was meal/us head 35 percent, incus body 25 percent, conchal cartilage 10 percent, bioglass ceramic 35 percent. Dry ear was obtained in 92,5 percent, tympanic membrane perforation was close in 97,5 percent. Preoperative PTA was 52,7dB, 50 percent of them was from 25 - 50dB
postoperative PTA was 40,8 dB, 70 percent of them was from 25 - 50dB. Preoperative ABG was 34,2dB, 62,5 percent of them over 30dB
postoperative ABG was 25,4dB, 87,5 percent of them under 30dE. Conclusion: modified radical mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty has high rate of dry ear and allows to reserve and to improve hearing.
