Carotid atherosclerosis is a risk high factor for cerebral stroke. However, research on the morphology and function of the common carotid artery outside the skull by Doppler ultrasound in patients with cerebral infarction have not been interested in Vietnam. In this study, 50 stranded people (male 33, female 17), cerebral infarction (group of patients) with an average age of 71.2 +/- 10. I years were diagnosed with cerebral infarction identified clinically and by shooting computerized tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, and 20 patients (13 male, 7 female) with no risk factors for atherosclerosis scene, no signs of cerebral infarction equivalent age is: 68 5 +/- 10.46 years. Both groups are Doppler common carotid artery. Results of the study showed: - Thickness of the internal medium average opening on the right and left common carotid artery disease group (respectively: 1.26 +/- 0.62, 1.24 +/- 0,5 I mm) compared with the control group (respectively were: 0.79 +/- 0.23, 0.78 +/- 0.21 mm) with statistical significance (p 0.05) - The degree of elasticity, systolic velocity (Vs) and diastolic velocity (V d) of the common carotid artery left and right (respectively: 0.65 +/- 0,27mm

Conclude: there is a rather high internal medium thickness average opening and RI indices in patients with cerebral infarction compared with the control group with statistical significance (p 0.05).
