Poverty reduction is an essential target in both of short term and long term, having the fundamental role in the strategy of "Sustainable development" of Vietnam. Among other provinces, Bac Kan has reached some remarkable achievements in the process of poverty reduction. The rate of poor households has been rapidly, dramatically and continuously decreased in the last years. The rate of poor households was 41,47 percent in 2006, before sharply reducing to 17,6 percent in 2010. However, the rate of poor households is still considered as a great number in Bac Kan. The rate of near-poor households is quite huge, and the poverty reduction is not sustainable. Special as it is when the Government increases the poverty standard for each period, the poverty rate is almost as same as that of the previous period. This article is going to concentrate on analysing the result of poverty reduction in the local area, dedicating the problems, assessing the unsustainability in poverty reduction process, and proposing some solutions to perform the poverty reduction in Bac Kan in particular, and other local area having equivalent conditions in general.
