Aims: Assessment the effects of the protective ventilation strategy with pressure or volume controlled ventilation for acute respiratory distress syndrome in severe burns patients. Objective and Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 45 ARDS burn patients, admitted at Burn ICU, National Institute of Burns from 9/112010 to 26/11/2011. ARDS was diagnosed as guideline of European American consensus conference (1994). Patients with ARDS was ventilated as protective strategy and divided into two groups. Group 1 with volume controlled ventilation (VCV) and group 2 with pressure controlled ventilation (PVC). Result:The ssuccessful rate of PVC group was 50 percent and VCV group was 42.86 percent, but not reaching significantly, p 0.05. Morlality rate was 75 percent in PCV, and 76.19 percent VCV. The multiple organ failure was common cause of death.
