Objectives: To assess the nutrition status and dietary intake of children in Grade 4th at primary schools. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study of 375 children in Grade who were not in, puberty at 3 primary schools in Hai Duong City. The subjects were measured body weight, body height and assessed dietary intake. Results: Prevalence of underweight, stunting, and wasting were 8,8 percent, 9,9 percent and 3,7 percent respectively. Prevalence of overweight and obesity was 18.9 percent. There is no significant difference in the prevalence of underweight, stunting, wasting and overweight-obesity between boys and girls (p 0.05). The average energy intake was 1675.25 +/- 509.62 kcal per day, meeting 91.78 percent of the recommended dietary allowance (RDA)
the Protein (P) intake was over RDA (104.7 percent). The Lipid (L) and glucid (G) intake was approximate to RDA. The ratio of P:L:G was 16.5 percent, 20.1 percent and 63.4 percent respectively. The intake of zinc, iron, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin D and ratio Calcium/Phosphorus was lower than RDA. Conclusions: Overweight ad obesity are noteworthy problems in primary school children in the studied areas. The intake of almost nutrients did not meet RDA. There was an imbalance in the ratio of P:L:G. Protein intake over RDA.
