Background: Hypertension is recognized as important risk factors for left ventricular (LV) function. Some studies have shown that diabetes itself may also be an independent risk factor for LV function, although this is controversial, The aim of this study was to determine the hypertersion factors associated with LV function in patients. with type 2 diabetes by Doppler echocardiography. Materials and Methods: The study subjects consisted of 158 type 2 diabetic male patients (age ranged 50-75 years,), with type-2 diabetes mellitus according to WHO criteria and nondiabetic age- and sex-matched 42 control male subjects. Diabetic patients were sub ,cjivided into two groups on the basis of the presence of arterial hypertension. Group 1 comprised 70 normotensive diabetic patients. Group 2 comprised 88 hypertensive diabetics Method: cross-sectional study. All patients, asked medical history, prehistory, measured weight, height, 8MI, blood pressure, examination of blood... echocardiography by Phillips SONOS 7500 ultrasound machine with 2-4MHz transducer at No.108 Central military hospital. Results: The authors studied 158 patients with type 2 diabetes using conventional Doppler echocardiography, the results showed that: - Groups Type 2 DM with hypertension have ratio LV hypertrophy 20,7 percent higher groups Type 2 DM without hypertension with p 0.05. - The proportion of LV systolic dysfunction in Type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertention (4.5 percent) is higher statictics than the other in Type 2 DM without hypertension and control groups with p0.05. - LV diastolic dysfunction patients in Type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertention 65,9 percent higher Type 2 DM without hypertension and control groups with p0.05
(include 35.9 percent stage 1, 25 percent stage 2). Conclusion: These results suggest that hypertention may be a risk factor for LV diastolic dysfunction in type 2 diabetic patients. Doppler echocardiography detection left ventricular function is a major goal for the prevention of heart failure in the type 2 diabetic patients with hypertention.
