The Laws of Manu is an ancient Indian scripture. It describes the Hindu view of creation, the universe, life, the state, society and particularly the concepts of reincarnation and caste. It continues to have a far-reaching effect and influence on life in modem India. Despite the rapid technological advancement that is underway in the country, abusive practices related to the caste system are prevalent. While initiatives to bring about improvements have been introduced in the recent years, much remains to be done to complete eradicate these discriminatory practices.
