The author would like to introduce a method of teaching Vietnamese lexicon to foreigners from the view point of language-culture. By applying the theory of cognitive linguistics, especially the theory of conceptual metaphors, the authors want to help learners formulate a way of thinking to understand the specific structure and meaning of Vietnamese lexical fields. From there, they can format words as a native speaker would and apply this way of thinking in all situations. the authors have designed lessons to teach Vietnamese using the lexical field of 'food' at both a simple and complicated level to provide an example pf that model. The main purpose of this method is to teach learners to be able to apply their vocabulary to any Vietnamese cultural situation.
