Using the Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) with remote sensing and GIS tools is an effective way to identify and assess coastal vulnerability in Thua Thien Hue Province. This study found that there are 11,042.7 square kilometers (6.3 percent) of coastal area that are highly vulnerable is concentrated in the Quang Dien and Phu Vang distr.icts
72,832.4 square kilometers (41.7 percent) of coastal area that are highly vulnerable are the communes of Phong Dien, Quang Dien and Phu Vang and Hue City
48,769.9 square kilometers (27.9 percent) of coastal area that have an average degree of damage is an area that includes the Phong Dien, Huong Tra, Quang Dien and Phu Loc communes
and 42,012.97 square kilometers (24 percent) with low level damage is concentrated mainly in the communes of Huong Tra and Phu Loc. An analysis of the social impact on the areas affected by the sea level rise shows that the more it goes deeply into continental area, the more vulnerability and risk is declining. The areas which are expected to sustain the most damage and vulnerability are Quang Dien, Phu Vang and Phu Loc.
