After studying 12 patients having laryngo-tracheal trauma caused by tightened rope round the neck were treated at National ENT Hospital and Hue Central Hospitalfrom 5/2008 to 5/2011, the authors have some conclusions as follows: - Patients are usually males, young peole in the 16 - 30 age range. - Main reason causing injuries is traffic accident. - Type of rope is mainly electrical wire, the following is helmet strap. - Injuries of both larynx and trachea have high percentage of cases (58,3 percent). - Serious injury, even separating larynx and trachea are mostly seen in eletrical wire group, so are death patient cases. - End-to-end laryngo-tracheal anastomosis are mostly in eletrical wire. - The worst result is also in eletrical wire group, there are 66.7 percent of the patients still wearing stents. - Consequences fi'om this trauma are only seen in traffic accident group while sequela including of vocal cord paralysis in both sides is only seen in electrical wire group. - Cordectomy in both sides is also only seen in electrical wire group of type of tighted ropes around the neck. - After 6 months, all patients (except death patients) breath comfotably, however the rate of sequela, hoarseness is high.
