The purpose of the study was to evaluate the result and the influence factors of laser gonioplasty in the treatment of primary angle - closure glaucoma. The results showed that the mean lOP was reduced from 27,05 +/- 6,30 mmHg before treatment to 13,64 +/- 1,23: mmHg at 24 months. The mean angle opening after treatment was 2.6 +/- 0.78, an increase of 2.1 +/- 0.79. Complete success was 73.73 percent
incomplete success was 21.19 percent and 6 eyes (5,08 percent) required trabeculectomy to control lOP. Complete success was 3 times more likely in sub-acute angle closure glaucoma than chronic angle - closure glaucoma and 5 times more in mild stage than medium stage. Failure was 7 times more likely in synechial angle closure over 90° than is under. In conclusion, Laser gonioplasty is highly effective and safe in treatment of primary angle-closure glaucoma at mild and medium stage. In case of chronic glaucoma, the severity, the synechial angle closure plus the late stage of the disease would decrease the likelihood of success.
