In this paper, free vibration analysis of FGM plates is investigated by the finite element method (FEM) based on the high-order shear deformation theory. The formulation uses only linear approximations and its implementation into finite element programs is quite simple and efficient. In the FGM plates, the material properties are assumed to vary through the thickness by a simple power rule of the volume fractions of the constituents. The effect of the volume fractions of the constituents to natural vibrations of FGM plates is numerically analyzed in detail. The numerical results show high reliability and accuracy of the present method compared with other published solutions in the literature.
