Stem borer species as a group are generally considered to be the most important insect pests of sugarcane in Vietnam. They attack sugarcane throughout the year, with a peak of the rate of damaged sugarcane stems occurring from June to September. They occur in sugarcane throughout all growth stages. Among the newly introduced sugarcane varieties, ROC27 was least damaged by sugarcane stem borers, with a damaged rate of 8.8 percent. On the contrary, Vietnam 3 was most heavily infested by this group of pests with a damaged rate of 22.2 percent. The Increasing percentage of damaged internodes caused by stem borers ad to a decrease of the yield of sugarcane.
