The study was conducted at the Center for research and development of tuber crop. Thanhtri, Hanoi in 2008-2010. The results showed that the caterpillar of a Thosea sp. was the major pest of canna (Canna edulis Ker). Their eggs were laid in clusters and there were 6 instars. Pupation was among old and dry leaves or in soil close to the main stem. Adults were active at night (17:00 - 19:30). Their life cycle was at 25°C and 30°C, 75.47 and 64.21 days, respectively. The number of eggs 25°C and at 30°C was 25.61 and 27.57 egg/female respectively.
