This study describes the rural-urban linkages and sustainable livelihood strategies of Khmer farm households in the context of rapid urbanization of Can Tho city. Omon district is about 21 km away from center of Can Tho city. This district has 1.072 Khmer households and in which about 50 percent of the total households are poor and marginal poor. This paper aims to analysis the livelihood assets of Khmer farm households and livelihood strategies in context of peri-urban region. The data for my study was gathered from some PRA tools through focus group meetings and discussions such as Venn diagram, resource maps, social maps, seasonal calendars, historical profiles, time lines..., deep interviews (including some Khmer households and local government), questionaire (120 Khmer households with the different economic groups at two ward: Chau Van Liem and Truong Lac) and was cross-checked through field observations and secondary data in the form of relevant studies and reports. This Sustainable Livelihood Framework shows how, in dijjerent contexts, Khmer farm households access to multi-level capitals for sustainable livelihood. Through a case study of Omon district, Can Tho city, this framework examined the challenges for Khmer farm households in peri-urban regions in the future.
