Folk painting career appeared in the village of Dong Ho (Song Ho commune, Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province) from late sixteenth century, early seventeenth century. Dong Ho painting is one of the three major folk painting types of Vietnam which is extant to the present. In this folk painting type, the cultural identity of Vietnam has shown its special feature simple but very nice drawing. As times have passed, the products of Dong Ho painting have been sold in many countries around the world. However, in the trend of integration and development, with the impact of market mechanism, products of high technology dominate the handicraft products, very few families cling to the traditional craft to maintain this job - the unique culture of Kinh Bac. With over 400 years of history, Dong Ho painting village deserves a national heritage typical of the folk culture of ethnic. The preparation of dossiers for UNESCO to recognize Dong Ho folk painting as "Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding" is very essential. This will be a prerequisite for the development of conservation plans, professional development for woodcuts. Besides, if UNESCO recognition has been approved, Dong Ho painting will have new opportunities to reach out to the world in type of souvenirs products, which will create more favorable conditions for the development and conservation of the unique cultural traditions of the nation.
