District of Van Don island has been taking many of its advantages, including extremely favorable geographical location, for marine economy development. Most importantly, fisheries and aquaculture are the two fastest growing sectors. There has been a breakthrough in aquaculture development in recent years, typically oyster and snout otter clam farming. However, the current practice of aquaculture in Van Don is not truly effective and lack of sustainability. Besides the development of aquaculture, tourism has a good start. At the current stage, tourism has not developed, and has not caused any serious consequences. Thus, providing planning solutions for tourist centers and clusters is urgently and significantly needed. With the available resources and potentials, along with accurately planned policies, and with the participation of authorities at all levels, organizations and communities, Van Don will become a well-known destination nationally and internationally.
