Developing countries are also actively applying new advances in science and technology, especially remote sensing technology, in order to create opportunities to leapfrog, promote competitive advantages, accelerate the industrialization process. and proactive integration. Along with the achievements in space research and information technology development, modern remote sensing technology has been formed and developed, bringing high efficiency for many important socio-economic activities such as: investigating basic, resource exploitation and management, environmental protection and supervision, natural disaster prevention and mitigation, national defense and security. As a result, remote sensing technology plays an important role in the long-term development strategy of every nation.Hiện nay, nhiều nước phát triển đã bắt đầu chuyển sang văn minh tri thức - trí tuệ. Các quốc gia đang phát triển cũng tích cực áp dụng những tiến bộ mới của khoa học công nghệ đặc biệt là công nghệ viễn thám nhằm tạo cơ hội đi tắt đón đầu, phát huy lợi thế cạnh tranh, đẩy nhanh quá trình công nghiệp hóa và chủ động hội nhập. Cùng với những thành tựu trong nghiên cứu vũ trụ và phát triển công nghệ thông tin, công nghệ viễn thám hiện đại đã hình thành và phát triển, đem lại hiệu quả cao cho nhiều hoạt động kinh tế xã hội quan trọng như: điều tra cơ bản, khai thác và quản lý tài nguyên, giám sát và bảo vệ môi trường, phòng chống và giảm nhẹ thiên tai, quốc phòng - an ninh. Nhờ đó công nghệ viễn thám có một vị trí quan trọng trong chiến lược phát triển lâu bền của mọi quốc gia.
