Đối với môn giáo dục công dân ở trường phổ thông, việc kiểm tra đánh giá không chỉ nhằm mục tiêu đánh giá kết quả cuối cùng của hoạt động lĩnh hội kiến thức mà nó là biện pháp kích thích sự nhận thức của học sinh, góp phần nâng cao chất lượng, hiệu quả của hoạt động dạy học. Tuy nhiên hiện nay, việc thực hiện kiểm tra đánh giá đối với môn học này ở nhiều trường trung học phổ thông còn bất cập, chưa đánh giá được đúng năng lực của người học, chưa bám sát vào tính đặc thù của môn học.
