In face image analysis systems such as surveillance and recognition, image segmentation is an important task of great research interest as not only does it remove the background, thus helping determine exactly the regions of face, but it is also an initial assessment criterion for faces in the image. This paper presents a face segmentation algorithm based on approach to material detection. The algorithm has been in experiment and proved to be efficient when performing face segmentation of complex skin conditions and background.
