This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and heart failure (HF), with further subgroup analysis for Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). A thorough analysis of five observational studies involving 430,016 IBD patients revealed a trends towards an increase, albeit statistically non-significant, risk of HF in IBD patients (RR: 1.28, 95% CI: 0.67-2.42, p=0.45, I2=100%). However, CD patients (RR=1.30, 95% CI=1.15-1.46, p<
0.0001, I2=6%) exhibited a significantly higher risk of HF compared to UC patients (RR=1.43, 95% CI=0.81-2.52, p=0.21, I2=77%). These findings emphasize the importance of cardiovascular monitoring in IBD management, particularly for CD patients. The study also highlights the need for future research involving larger cohorts and randomized controlled trials to better understand the relationship between IBD and HF.
