In the book "A Century of Consumption" (An All - Consuming Century) published in 2000, American History Professor Gary Cross mentioned the dominant ideology in America at the end of the twentieth century as consumerism. because it not only meets the basic needs of consumers, but also helps them adapt to a society that is in shape with a growing demand for personal freedom and to fulfill the desire for happiness in that material world. Like any society, American consumer society has a process of formation and development throughout the history of the United States. Many studies have convincingly demonstrated that America does not suddenly become a consumer society when "saving" is one of the characteristics and values that have been raised since the founding period. This article will present and analyze the historical periods of a thrifty society in the US from the national period to the early twentieth century.
